Starting in number 3 is the closing ceremony at STN. While this also one of the worst things on the trip for me but the positive in this case are more powerful than the negative. Sure I actually had to pretty ask a girl out to the movies. The excitement however made me forget about that and still think it's still one of the highlights of the trip. At the closing ceremony, I got to discover by surprise my most outstanding thing that has happen to me. When I heard one of my co-presenters say that we won 1st place, I could feel my nervousness push away. Getting that award was the most exciting thing that has happen to me. It showed that all the hard work that Taylor, Napua and I did over the past 10 months and 3 hours, paid off.
At number 2 is seeing the 9/11 memorial and museum. I was not born when the 4 planes were hijacked, but I did watch movies about the attacks that day. That’s pretty much though, words and pictures however can explain the horror of that day unless you were there or see it on TV. I had no idea what happened on that day. Going to the museum and memorial opened my eyes to what happened that day. When I saw the two big square holes in the ground, my heart was in deep sadness. Also, while waiting for everyone to see it, I heard Uncle Ryan witness account when the towers collapsed. He said that he was in subway when the towers hit and was let out to see WTC down in the ground. He remembered just seeing the towers in the sky just days earlier and also seeing the missing posters of people in the days after. That really gave me a sense of what happened in NYC that day. The museum itself was interesting showing many disturbing pictures of the building and victims on the ground. The walk through exhibit was very interesting but very sad. You could listen to people voicemails from plane using the air phone, hearing them say goodbye and I love you before the towers hit. That was very sad thing to hear but it was important for us to know to prevent from happening again. The 9/11 memorial and museum should visited by everyone to never forget and prevent this from happening again.
Number 1, getting to see NYC. This includes all the sights and sounds of the Big Apple. No wonder the city is considered one of the funniest places in the world. For the first time, I was to be on the former top of the world, the Empire State Building. I was able to see the entire Manhattan island with New Jersey and Brooklyn on the two sides. We were so high up and it was amazing to see the inside of building. We also got to see Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. When we were on the ferry heading to the islands, I was very excited. The Statue of Liberty looks bigger than it look and it was amazing to see what people got to see before heading entering the land of the free. In fact, the boat ride from Liberty Island to Ellis Island felt like you were arriving into America, like in the Titanic movie. Ellis Island is pretty much a very big customs building like at the airport. You could see where they claimed their luggage and get checked off the list to know they got off the boat. In other rooms you could see the hard process in getting into country. They could see you have a health problem at a glance and mark you with chalk if you did. In the end, Ellis Island was very interesting. The city is filled with cars, people and food. Besides the sites, the city is just a place filled with color, excitement and interesting things. Plus we went ice skating the world’s most notable park, Central Park. Even though I have no idea how to ice skate, it was just fun to do it and see all the buildings which distracted me from the struggle. Overall, the Big Apple has something for everyone and is filled with life. Someday, I will live there or at least go back.
